Scholarship Program for Students from Greece’s Remote Islands, by the Kaizen Foundation and Symplefsi

Two €12,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2025–26 academic year, with the option to renew for up to four years. Applications are now open and will remain open until May 31.

The Kaizen Foundation, in partnership with the non-profit organization Symplefsi, is launching a new scholarship program for students from Greece’s remote islands. This initiative is part of the Foundation’s broader mission to ensure equal access to education. For the 2025–2026 academic year, two scholarships of €12,000 each will be awarded.

The scholarships are intended for students who have recently completed high school on Greek islands with fewer than 2,000 residents — such as Astypalaia, Donousa, Lipsi, and Sikinos. Candidates will be selected based on academic excellence (a final high school grade above 18 out of 20), as well as financial need and social circumstances. Each scholarship is renewable for up to four years, provided that recipients complete at least 80% of their courses each year and maintain a minimum Grade Point Average of 7.0 out of 10. Full eligibility criteria and the list of required documents can be found here.

Panos Konstantopoulos, President of the Kaizen Foundation, stated: “As the academic year comes to a close, high school graduates are setting their sights on their academic futures. However, for many students and their families, financial uncertainty remains a significant concern. This is particularly true on our smaller islands, where it is not uncommon for academically outstanding students to forego higher education due to the inability to meet associated costs. At the Kaizen Foundation, we firmly believe that every child should have equitable access to higher education. Through this new initiative, launched in collaboration with Symplefsi, we are working to turn that belief into a tangible opportunity.”.

Dr. Aris Papapetropoulos, President of Symplefsi, added: “This scholarship program for graduating students from our remote islands marks the second initiative we have launched in collaboration with the Kaizen Foundation. Last year, we inaugurated a new sports facility on the island of Chalki, providing approximately 60 children with access to athletic activities. This year, we are offering two exceptional students the opportunity to pursue their university studies with focus and peace of mind. This initiative is significant not only for the students themselves but also for the long-term development of their communities, which stand to benefit from the presence of highly educated residents.”.

The application process is already underway and will remain open until May 31. Applications must be submitted online through the Kaizen Foundation’s official website. After the deadline, all submissions will be reviewed by an independent panel of experts and Foundation representatives. Final selections will be made following the official release of university entrance exam results.
