Creating a hub for environmental education in Comino

The Kaizen Foundation has announced a three-year partnership with Friends of the Earth Malta (FoEM) to support the creation of a hub for environmental education

The Kaizen Foundation has announced a three-year partnership with Friends of the Earth Malta (FoEM) to support the creation of a hub for environmental education at Il-Forn ta’ Kemmuna. The long-term project aims to transform Comino’s historical bakery into a zero-impact facility that educates visitors about the ecological and historical significance of the island.

The bakery, located near Santa Maria Bay and surrounded by unspoiled nature (16,400m²), will operate with zero emissions, incorporating renewable energy, rainwater harvesting, wastewater treatment, and waste management systems, serving as a model for sustainable development. It will host activities to connect visitors with Comino’s natural landscape, including nature walks, beekeeping and permaculture workshops.
